Solutions for Evolving Networks

The Metrobility family of managed Ethernet solutions enable network builders to create efficient, reliable and manageable Ethernet network infrastructures. Our comprehensive solutions provide managed “first-mile” access for private networks, and highly reliable yet flexible media conversion for mission-critical private networks.

Service Provider Solutions

For the service provider, Metrobility delivers carrier Ethernet Demarcation Devices deployed at the customer edge. These intelligent optical Ethernet demarcation devices extend carrier-class Ethernet services to solve the remote provisioning, management and troubleshooting dilemma many service providers face when deploying metro Ethernet solutions. more

Enterprise Solutions
For the enterprise network, Metrobility offers a wide range of managed and unmanaged media conversion, wavelength conversion, distance extension, line protection and restoration (link redundancy), and WDM solutions. more

Wave Division Multiplexing Solutions
CWDM and BWDM
Metrobility’s Coarse Wave Division Multiplexing (CWDM) solution includes a 16-channel passive multiplexing, de-multiplexing, and Optical Add/Drop Multiplexers (OADM). The managed solution combines the broad range of capabilities of passive optical CWDM technology with interface line cards and superior network element management through NetBeacon® Element Manager to achieve maximum flexibility, scalability, and manageability. more

The bi-directional wavelength division multiplexing (BWDM) interface carries two distinct channels in different directions on a single strand of fiber. BWDM effectively doubles the fiber capacity on existing fiber cables. more

Line Protection and Restoration
Metrobility's patented* redundant interface provides redundant data paths for Line Protection and Restoration (LPR). An essential connectivity tool for high priority and mission-critical applications, it provides fully redundant data paths for Ethernet devices. If the primary connection fails due to a cable or hardware failure, the LPR interface switches the device's traffic to the secondary connections within 200 microseconds.

These devices are equipped with Metrobility's SONAR, or Switch on No Activity Received, which monitors not only for loss of link on the active port, but will also monitor for loss of traffic. With SONAR, if the active port remains idle for a given amount of time (configurable for 1-31 seconds) the resilient technology of the redundant interface will verify activity on the secondary port, and switch traffic to that port once traffic is detected. This prevents a switch or switch port failure from bringing down the any part or all of the network.

LPR technology can be found on 100Mbps and 1Gbps line cards as well as the Ethernet Services Provisioning Platform.
